A Chair for My Mother

It's a good story, there's just not much to it. It's not enough to hold my attention.

A little girl lives in an apartment with her mother and grandmother. Their old apartment had caught on fire and they lost all their belongings. Everybody had helped them by pitching in and giving them secondhand furniture, but they really need an armchair. So they save all their coins, and collect them together and go out and buy an armchair exactly like the one they were all imagining. And that's the end. That's really it.

It's good in that they don't get it for free. There's no contrived handouts, it's just very matter of fact. But it's kind of like writing a book about "I went to the store and bought some bread." It's not really that interesting. I'm not emotionally invested in these characters, there's no character development, and it's not an engrossing story. It's not bad, it just doesn't make me want to read it again.
